Mom List for this weekend

Hello Everyone!

I am worn out just thinking about this weekend. I know that we will represent our school well this weekend and it will be great! Everyone has been working hard.

We are going to be optimists and plan on leaving at 3:00 or as close as possible. As soon as the buses get there we will load and get on the road. We will eat as soon as we get to Gadsden. I ordered a dinner for everyone except those who contacted me and to say that they are not participating. You can put your money ($7) with your name on it in the band box. Water will also be provided. There will be a sweet and salty snack after the game.

Please make sure you have signed up for the return home text for THIS YEAR. It does not continue from year to year.

Saturday is BYOD – Bring Your Own Dinner (sack lunch). We will eat once we get there. Water will be available.

Please remember:

Read the email thoroughly that Ms. Thomas sent our yesterday. Everything you need to know is there.

Bring everything to school tomorrow – hat, uniform, compression gear, white socks, shoes, gloves, lyre, flip folder. Check Ms. Thomas’ list as well.

Wash your uniform and compression gear Friday night and Saturday morning. Clean your shoes.

Eat a good lunch on Saturday.

Looking forward to a great weekend!

Express Discount card available Thursday – Stevie B's, Schwan's –

Hi everyone!

We have just a few more days to earn 20% on our Schwan’s food orders – and 40% on an e-certificate (which can be used toward the purchase of Schwan’s food). Call 1-855-870-2208 or order Schwan’s on line at https:/www.schwans-cares.com/ and sign up for the Bob Jones Band – A year to enjoy Schwan’s or use campaign number 13511 and the band will get credit for your purchase!

I need to let you know that the info I gave at the booster meeting last week was wrong about the express discount cards. Have you ever heard that the large print giveth and the fine print taketh away? Well, I really should not have fallen for their “up to 70%” line, and should have asked more questions. The reality is still good, and I hope you’ll want to participate in selling the cards, or at least purchasing one. Each card costs $20.00 and has offers that can be used over and over again for Chilis, Schlotzsky’s, Smoothie King, Jack’s, IHOP, Domino’s, DQ, Waffle House, Yogurt Mountain, Lawler’s, Casa Blanca, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Express Oil Change, Dream Land and McAlister’s.

We won’t know the exact amount of profit each student will receive until we finalize all the sales. The first 300 cards will net us a profit of 50%, so $10.00 per card will be earned. All cards over 300 sold will net us 70% or $14.00. Once all money (and unsold cards) have been turned in, we will tally everything up and give everyone the same profit (for each card sold) across the board. The more we sell, the bigger the profit!

I will be at school today – Thursday (the 18th) after rehearsal, Saturday at the end of rehearsal, and again Monday after school and after competition rehearsal for you to pick up any cards you would like to sell. You may pay for the cards when you pick them up, or you may turn in your money and all unsold cards by the 30th, by either giving it to me or putting it in an envelope and putting it in the booster box in the band room. Put your student’s name on the envelope, and what the payment is for. You may turn in checks from your customers, but please ask them to put their Driver’s License number and a phone number on the check and make it out to BJHS Band. If you find you’d like more cards to sell, just let me know and I’ll get them to you. Everything will be due by Sept. 30 so we can close it out before we begin selling pecans, and tickets for the stadium event.

We also have Stevie B Cards available. They are $10.00 and net the band $9.00! They have all sorts of freebies and discounts on them. Stevie B’s is now staying open until Midnight Friday nights, to give our kids another option for after game fellowship. While some of the discounts on the cards are limited to week nights, there are some that can be used Friday nights. The cards will easily pay for themselves if Stevie B’s is a place your family likes to go.

Please know that any and all fund raising opportunities are optional. You are not required to participate in any if you would prefer not to. (except that Ms. Thomas would like everyone to sell 2 tickets to the stadium event to help pump up the general funds). The fund raisers we set up that go into the general funds help to support the program and keep the band fees as low as possible. Others go directly into the student account according to the amount each student earns. That money can be used to pay spring/marching fees, for trips, spring concert dresses for the ladies, camp fees, winter guard, dance and drum line expenses – anything band related except class fees.

If you have any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your continued support of our band program!

Gadsden/Hendersonville Schedule and Details (Please read carefully)

Hi all,

It’s a busy week for sure. Our first away trip and competition!!

I’ve attached a detailed schedule for both Friday’s football game and Saturday’s competition. I hope I didn’t forget anything!! Please take the time to read over both agendas CAREFULLY. There’s a ton of details for both days with which you will need to be familiar. Feel free to print out for your benefit.

Most important reminders
– Bring $7 for Jimmy Johns Friday.
– Competition Band: Wash your pants after Friday’s game.
– Bring a sack dinner for Saturday’s competition trip.
– Bring band hat to rehearsal Saturday morning.
– We signed up for competition buses this morning. If you were absent, please come see me to make sure your name gets on the list (Percussion- bus 1 remained the same; Guard- all on bus 4).

Students: Read the agenda word for word multiple times. Don’t let details slip through the cracks. And as always, no stupid questions 🙂

Thank you all for your hard work and support as we are entering the heart of our football and competition seasons. We are still waiting on details regarding the homecoming parade next week. We will communicate those as soon as we get them. Have a great rest of the week!

Dinner for Friday and Saturday

Hello Everyone,

This Friday is our first away from Madison game and it is two hours away at Gadsden. The kids will be dismissed from class and we will leave from the school. We are ordering box lunches from Jimmy John’s. There will be ham or turkey sandwiches on white or whole wheat bread, chips, a cookie and water. Because we are in a time crunch everyone will eat on the bus on the way to Gadsden. The cost is $7. Please put the money in an envelope with the name and place it in the band box by Friday. I am giving an exact count to Jimmy John’s Thursday morning. If you are NOT going to participate please let me know by the end of the day on WEDNESDAY. If you are not participating, you will need to BRING YOUR OWN dinner. Water will be provided and there will be a snack on the way home.

I appreciate your cooperation with this late minute notice. Plan A did not work out, Plan B was not a good idea and here we are at Plan C.

For the competition on Saturday we are not ordering food. Please BRING YOUR OWN dinner. We will eat as soon as we get to Hendersonville. There will be water and a snack on the way home.

This will be a good time to make sure that you are signed up for the return home text.

Ms. Thomas will send out an email with instructions for the weekend.

But the Mom in me feels like I need to say:

There will be NO BATHROOM breaks while on the road.

Please make sure your uniform is clean.

Make sure you have everything – pants, jacket. compression gear, gloves, hat, lyre, and flip folder. Bring it all to school Friday morning.

Put your pants in the washer as soon as you get home Friday night. Go to bed. Put them in the dyer in the morning.

If you are in competition band, your uniform will need to be washed for Saturday.

Eat a good lunch after practice on Saturday.

You can disregard this if you don’t need it. Or you may be more experienced than me and have things to add.

I am very excited about this weekend and showing off our band!

Volunteer Background Check

Dear Parents,

I apologize for the second email. I forgot to include a couple of things.

To complete the background check: go to the Madison City Schools website and find the “I want to volunteer” button. It is not very big and you may miss it. OR you can go to our BJHS Band website and find the “Background Check” button. You can’t miss it. Thank you, Janine!

These will take you to the BIB link to start the check. Like I said it is easy to do and does not take but a few minutes. The cost is $14.95. This is not an instant check. Please use the Lobby Guard check in the lobby of the school until you receive your background check approval. You can bring the sticker to the band room and place it in the band box. When you do receive your approval make a copy of the card and place it in the band box.

This is required for all volunteers who have contact with the students – chaperones, nurses, equipment crew, photographers, uniforms, etc.

Thank you for your cooperation with this new requirement.
