BJHS Survey

Parents,

Dr. Fowler and The Bob Jones Administration have asked that we share this memo with all of you. If you get the time he would like as many as possible to do the survey.

Parents,

We need your help! Our school and district are going through district accreditation this year, reviewing our strong areas and looking at areas in which we can improve and we need your help. We want your input. As part of the process, we are required to gather input through surveys from teachers, parents, and our students. Without this input we cannot complete the accreditation process. We need everyone’s participation.

The surveys are available now through August 27 and can be accessed through the link below or on the Madison City Schools website. Please be assured that your responses to this survey will be anonymous.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us and for also providing opportunities for students to share their input.

TWO Fundraising Opportunities

Hi everyone!

We have two ongoing fund raisers you may already know about. I’d like to encourage you to participate to help defray some of our expenses and keep the account afloat as we make our $9,000. uniform payment to central office soon. Contributions from these fund raisers will help keep our band fees low. Other opportunities will be offered throughout the year that will directly benefit the students who choose to participate, with profits going directly to individual student accounts.

If you were at Thursday’s booster meeting, you already know the first fundraiser is Schwan’s Cares. Until September 27th, 20% of all products you order and 40% of e-certificate sales will be given back to us. After the 27th, 5% will be given back until August 14, 2015! Please see the attached flyer for more information. Feel free to join the group your student belongs to or set up a campaign of your own.

If you’d like a catalog from Schwan’s, please let me know and I’ll be happy to get one to you.

The important info is http://www.Schwans-Cares.com and the # 13511!

Soon there will be a button for Schwan’s on the Band website to make it even easier.

The next opportunity has to do with our recent Stevie B’s spirit day/night. Did you go, back in July? Stevie B’s donated $290.56 to us from that spirit day with them!

If you didn’t get to go, we’ll have another night set up so that you’ll be able to if you’d like. Between now and then, you might want to purchase one of their fund raiser cards. For $10.00, you will get what they consider a $70.00 value. Some who have already purchased cards have told me they made the money back on their first visit to Stevie B’s! The card is good through May 31, 2015 and gives you the following:

2 offers for 20 free game room tokens

Free Birthday Party Buffet – Birthday child eats free with any party package of 8 or more.

Free Medium Specialty Pizza with Purchase of a large pizza to go

2 offers for a free adult buffet with purchase of a drink 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Free large 1 topping pizza w/purchase of equal or greater value pizza

2 offers for Tokens – Buy $5.00 – Get $5.00 free

2 offers for a free kids’ buffet with purchase of a drink

Free Buffet Monday through Thursday

If you’d like to buy to have one (or more) of these cards, please send your money to the band room ($10.00 per card you wish to order). If you write a check, please make it out to BJHS Band and write your student’s name and the number of cards you’d like in the memo section of the check. If you send cash, please put it in an envelope marked STEVIE B CARDS and include (on the envelope or a note) your student’s name and the number of cards you are paying for. I will also have cards available this Thursday afternoon if you’d like to buy a card when picking your student up from practice.

Please keep reading e-mails and checking the calendar for more spirit nights and opportunities to support our group. If you have ideas for us, or would like to help, please don’t hesitate to be in touch with me.

Thank you!

Volunteer Opportunities

Parents,

There are still many openings for concession stand and chaperone help!

This is a preseason game and the kids will not be marching. They will be playing in the stands. This is a good opportunity to work and help get the season off to a good start.

Please go to the calendar on CHARMS or to http://www.bjhsband.com and click on “Volunteer” in the middle of the page. This will take you to the calendar. Click on the helping hand to sign up to help.

We need approximately 38 people each week to make the concession stand run smoothly. We really need people to carry belly trays (love that name). This is a fun job because you get to walk through the stands and see people and catch a play or two of the game. This is an important job because it greatly boosts our sales. There is fun to be had in all of the jobs. The most fun is getting to know the other parents.

Remember this is our biggest fundraiser. All of the money that we make in the concessions stand goes to help all of our kids.

Reminder: There will be a Concession Stand Tour on Wednesday, Aug 20 at 7pm. This is a good opportunity to be familiar with concession stand operations. Open to everyone.

We take five buses of students to every game — home and away. We need two adults per bus to chaperone. I enjoyed being a chaperone because I got a close up of the kids in the stands. You may see another side of your kid that you have not seen before. I did, and it made this Mom feel good about her son being in Marching Band.

We are still looking for 2-3 more people to help with the Truck Driver/Equipment committee. Your commitment to being on a regular rotation of this committee counts as your concession time. Please contact Mike Delmas if you are interested. mrdelmas@aol.com

I have two people who are nurses that have contacted me. If we had more, that would be great.

The treasurer’s committee needs five more people to help count money from the concession stand after the games. This will be a rotating committee and you would work at half of the home games. This counts for a concession time.

I know this may seem overwhelming and a lot of work. It is a lot of work. It takes lots of people doing many jobs to get our kids on the field. I have found working with the band to be fun and rewarding. I am so happy to have met new people, put a face to a name (especially with the kids), and make new friends. I hope that you will as well.
