News from the Booster Meeting last week

Parents and Students,

I have attached the handout from the meeting.

Please note the Spirit Night at Logan’s TOMORROW NIGHT, September 15th. Share with your friends too! Please remember that they will require a copy of the ticket at the bottom.

The dates through the rest of marching season are included as well as the dates for our fundraisers.

Other important information is the return home text. This will be very helpful this weekend with an away game and a competition.

There are a few things that were discussed not on the handout.

1. Background checks: You probably received an email from Dennis James who is head of Student Services at MCS Central Office regarding background checks. This is required for all chaperones, equipment crew and any others that are in contact with the students. There is a cost of $14.95. It is an easy process and it took me just a few minutes to complete. PLEASE COMPLETE THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Because this is not an instant check, we will continue with the Lobby Guard check. I know that some of you may have a background check from another organization such as church or scouts. You will need to contact the school or Mr. James to find out if that will work. That is not my call. If you are an employee of MCS, you have a background check and that counts.

2. Senior Night: We would like for a few people to help us with the Senior Night activities. We will be ordering medals, having them engraved, ordering flowers, getting names together, and helping on the field that night. If you can help, please let me know.

3. We are NOT going to the Chick-fil-a Bowl in Atlanta. Like Mr. Thornton said, some of you are happy about that and some are not. The bottom line is that it was just going to cost too much on a non trip year.

4. This coming weekend will be busy with an away game 2 hours away on Gadsden on Friday and a competition 2 + hours away in the other direction on Saturday. Our bands will be great both nights. Please come and support them. We will have dinner when we get to Gadsden. I am not sure yet what that will be – probably pizza. I let you know that details on that tomorrow and for Saturday as well.

My thanks to all of you who have volunteered so far in any capacity. We cannot do this without YOU! Everything we do not matter how big or small helps our kids and makes our band successful.

Reminder about Uniform Care

Parents and Guardians,

Just wanting to send out a reminder about uniform wear and care. Please wash pants on permanent press or gentle cycle after each game by unsnapping the hem and treating all stains. Refer to the Uniform Care Guide in your band handbook or online at Charms for helpful cleaning instructions. Also wash jackets when needed or at least once after every three events. These must be washed separately!! Also, you may dry them on a cool setting, but I recommend letting them air dry. Most importantly is to RE-SNAP and IRON the hem to where it falls right at the stitching on the shoe, a half-inch below the top near the ankle. If a previous hemline crease shows and you are having difficulty ironing out, I recommend steam ironing it out before re-snapping. We have noticed many students not having their pants ironed at the hem or seeing multiple hemline creases.

FYI:

There is stain remover called OdoBan Sports Edge stain & odor pretreatment (step 1) sold at Walmart that is really good at getting out stains. I personally have used it for the past three weekends to remove the black marks that the cymbals cause. It works like a charm and has lessened the look of old stains.

Ms. Thomas reminded the students last Friday about the dos and don’ts of how to take care of their hats. I am adding care tips on the hats below.

1. Always store hats in their proper container when not in use.

2. Spot clean with a mild liquid cleaner (such as Woolite or mild dishwashing detergent) diluted with cold water.

3. Scrub soiled parts gently with a soft sponge to remove dirt particles.

4. Allow the hat to air dry. Do NOT place in the dryer.

5. DO NOT dry clean, use spot-cleaning chemicals or bleach.

Again, if anyone is having difficulty with washing, ironing, hemming, etc, please email or call Joy or I. We will be happy to help.
